Newspeak

So I was listening to NPR and something occured to me: When someone asks you for your ID it's innocuous, but if someone tells you they need to see your Identity Card it would be downright Orwellian.

Weird.

You silly Americans make me laugh. Always worrying about what big conspiracy big brother is brewing, you often miss the real horrors that are actually being committed right in front of you.

Wow! Was that too angry?

=[ ] grr

Bad typesetting does that to me.

Er ... yes?

Anyway, I'd just make two points: Americans aren't the only ones guilty of missing the real horrors that are actually being committed right in front of you; and, more importantly, I wasn't really trying to wave some sort of conspiracy flag.

What I was actually pointing out was just how strange language can be, and how two words with the same definition can have different meanings. I hesitated when I wrote "Orwellian" because I was afraid it would be misunderstood. Oops!

Ha ha - all the other stuff I've written about, and this is what you get worked about? You're so coco-bananas!
